Get Started Making Money with AdSense
I have outlined 4 steps in getting started with AdSense to give new publishers a broad understanding of these steps.
- Plan and Develop your site including Adding Content
- Market your site
- Apply for AdSense & Add Advertisements to your site
- Maintain ads
Plan and Develop Your Site Including Content
Here is where my opinion differs from many AdSense Publishers. I feel
that you should publish a site that you are passionate about instead of just publishing
10 maybe 20 sites that you have absolutely no interest in. If you have 4-7 sites
that you are passionate about and you have the time to dedicate to the development
of these sites, then I say go for it. The point I am trying to make is that if you
have a handful of sites that you are very passionate about, you will continue to
grow them, contribute to them, and provide useful content to your visitors. By doing
this, you will build customer loyalty and repeat visitors because of good content.
There are many sites out there that are a dime a dozen, make sure you don’t get
caught up in building sites for AdSense, rather make the sites for the users and
the AdSense revenue will follow.
Market your site
This is probably one of the most important steps in having an online
business. Make sure you apply good Search Engine Optimization standards to your
site as this might be one of the cheapest ways to acquire new visitors to your site.
Other ways to market your site include joining forums or groups and contribute to
the forums and often times you can leave a signature at the end of each message.
Often times thousands of people read those posts per month and if you are joining
groups with users with the same interests as your site, you will slowly gain repeat
visitors. Other things such as submitting your sites to free link directories, exchanging
links, or advertising through AdWords are other possibilities of marketing your
site. Come up with a solid game plan and make sure you work your play. This is one
of the most important step in the success of your site.
Apply for AdSense & Add Advertisements to your site
This is where the fun begins. Apply for Google AdSense by visiting
www.google.com/adsense and click the “Click Here to Apply” button. After you apply,
you should expect to get a response from the AdSense team within 2-3 days. Once
you have been accepted into the AdSense program it’s time to get started having
fun. Adding ads to your site is easy and requires you going through the ad creation
wizard where Google AdSense gives you the code to Copy/Paste into your site. Place
the ads on your site according to our placement suggestions and make sure to add
Custom URL channels to track your changes.
Maintain ads
You should tweak the ad colors, placement, and types until you find
the formula for your visitors that maximizes your AdSense Revenues. To remove unwanted
ads you’re your site, I recommend downloading the Google AdSense Preview Tool for
Internet Explorer and preview all the possible ads for your page. Log into your
account and enter any sites you do not want displayed on your site into the Competitive
Ad Filter. This step does not end. Publishers should continuously be checking your
displayed ads to make sure the ads that are served are relevant to your visitors
needs.
